Dr. Merlin is an Emergency Medicine Expert Witness. He was trained in Internal Medical and Emergency Medicine. He is Vice Chairman of Emergency Medicine and at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center/Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health and their Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Fellowship Director. Dr. Merlin founded three EMS/Disaster Medicine Fellowships for physicians and has the only accredited program in New Jersey. He is currently an Associate Professor at Rutgers School of Public Health/Rutgers Medical School. He received the 2008 Rutgers President Recognition Award. Dr. Merlin has authored over 75 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts in Emergency Medicine.
Highly Sought After Lecturer, Specializing in Pre-Hospital Care
Dr. Merlin is a highly sought after lecturer who has lectured in multiple countries and throughout the United States. (Please see Dr. Merlin’s Lectures page.) He is one of only a handful of EMS physicians in the world who specialize in care of patients outside the hospital (pre-hospital) with 911 Emergencies or transfer of patients between hospitals. Dr. Merlin has trained dozens of physician’s worldwide who are now leaders in the field as well.
Affiliations and Clinical Practice
Dr. Merlin is the Chief Medical Officer of MONOC, which is New Jersey’s largest EMS system. In this capacity he oversees over 700 paramedics, EMT’s, nurses and physicians in the 911 System servicing over 50% of the state.
Dr. Merlin is also Chief Medical Officer of Jet911 (flyjet911.com) which is the only fixed wing Air Ambulance in the New York area. As such he is one of the few physicians in the world with specialty knowledge in long range air medical transport of patients. He was responsible for the company’s national accreditation and daily operations and oversees all of the flight physicians, nurses, paramedics and respiratory therapists. This unique knowledge makes him an ideal person to review any case involving medical emergencies on aircrafts, airports or medical protocols.
Lastly, Dr. Merlin consults regularly to business leaders on healthcare and concierge medical needs. He is involved with infection control and reducing the spread of illness in healthcare and private settings.
While maintaining all of the above activities, Dr. Merlin still maintains a clinical practice in the Emergency Department as well as concierge medical clients.
